AN INSPIRED spell of bowling by Leeton’s Brendon Greatz has helped Griffith-Leeton defeat Goulburn by four wickets in the Konica Cup at Ex-Servicemen’s Oval, Griffith on Sunday.

Greatz’s 6-14 off 10 overs effectively cut short a Goulburn innings that was threatening to spiral out of control.
The win is a boost for representative cricket in the area, which has had a tough time this year.
When Griffith-Leeton travelled to the ACT for its first two Konica Cup games in October, it was comprehensively beaten by C&S and the ACT under 19 side.
But that was all forgotten with Greatz the shining light, swinging the ball prodigiously in the humid conditions and leaving many of the Goulburn batsmen wondering what he was going to do next.
Mark Shelley (2-26) and Garth Chambers (1-22) also chipped in. The real danger came from just one Goulburn batsman, Jason Apps, who single-handedly turned the Goulburn innings into a threatening one, scoring 83 runs from only 89 balls with eight boundaries and one booming six.
It is not the first time Apps has dominated the order for Goulburn, but thanks to Greatz and company, his innings didn’t go beyond a century.
All up, Goulburn were only able to scrape together 148, but Griffith-Leeton still knew it had to score the runs.
Tim Rand and Phillip Burge got the Griffith-Leeton innings off to a solid start with both batsmen making starts before having their stays at the crease cut short.
Rand (23) and Burge (27) were pried out of the crease with the help of Rob Canning (3-38) and Brad Smith (2-39).
Brian Conroy (57) dominated with a half-century, adding more than a third of the runs needed.
Griffith-Leeton passed the Goulburn score in the 34th over with four wickets to spare in a satisfying victory.
