‘... the sheer nature of the buildings and the capacity of cold storage would lend itself well to other agricultural pursuits.’ Elders Albury real estate agent John Dolton
NSW’s ever-shrinking abattoir sector has claimed another victim, with Yanco Meatworks now up for sale by tender. AJ Bush and Sons’ only domestic meatworks ceased operations two years ago when the highly profitable wholesale butcher moved to streamline businesses. The 203-acre property on the edge of Yanco is for sale by tender with complete inventory and operational facilities as well as 24 megalitres of high security water, 48ML general security water and 175ML of bore license water. Elders Albury real estate agent John Dolton said the premises does not currently hold an operational licence but it would not be difficult to obtain one. “The plant is still in good condition and the sheer nature of the buildings and the capacity of cold storage would lend itself well to other agricultural pursuits,” he said. The abattoir began as the Australian Bacon Factory in the early 1900s and by the mid 1990s was handing up to 1600 lambs and more than 200 cattle a day, employing up to 50 people. Mr Dolton said the property should fetch a price of about $3 million and has attracted wide national and international interest.
