BEFORE Henty teenager Tynan Lieschke left home for a school event on Wednesday night, he had just secured some part-time work in the industry he was most passionate about – music.
But equal to his love for music, his family and principal yesterday spoke of a teenager who was committed to his Christian faith and enjoyed his status as an all-round sportsman. “One of his friends gave him a red ‘Mr Happy’ shirt for his 17th birthday. He loved it. It sums him up,” his sister Carisa, 18, told the Advertiser. Under difficult circumstances, his sister and father Robert spoke proudly about their much-loved brother and son from the front porch of the family’s Henty home. “He said ‘life is a party’ – if he couldn’t do it and enjoy it, he just didn’t do it,” Mr Lieschke said. “His faith was a big part of his life. His aim was to encourage his mates to have fun but to remember that life is short and to make sure of their eternal future.” Mr and Mrs Lieschke and their other children, Jeremy, 21, Mikaela, 10 and Chelsea, 8, were surrounded by family and friends who gathered at their home for support. “He was a likeable young man,” said St Paul’s College principal Dr Barry Krueger. “He had a distinctive, laid back sense of humour. He belonged to the River Life church. He was a wonderful example of the Christian faith to others.” As well as his faith and his music, Tynan loved his sports and had been heavily involved with football, tennis and cricket. Mr Lieschke said he was awarded a runner-up to the best and fairest trophy by the Henty Football Club last season. Police said Tynan’s body was taken to Albury following the crash. The family is still making arrangements for the funeral, his father said.
